~Vincent Van Gogh

My Story

MoonKo was founded by myself, Deborah, back around 2010, in Sheffield. For many years i had been a practising artist and also worked as an art teacher and lecturer. When i became a mum, i wanted to have flexible working hours, so made at the time, the very scary decision, after maternity leave to not go back into teaching. After my maternity leave ended i found myself claiming job seekers allowance, we had Very little income, so i needed to do something. i was advised to look at self employment and with so much help from my adviser ‘Lisa’ at S.E.N.T.A, i set up MoonKo.

I wanted to create a brand that would support other makers and keep the ethical, handmade elements that i care so much about, plus incorporate my love of all things botanical. Over time MoonKo has developed from an online presence to my first shop back in 2013 (where i currently still am)

I am passionate about encouraging other woman in business and often teach at the University of Sheffield working with students within the arts, developing their business practice. I also offer many workshops ‘Selling to Shops’ ‘Woman in Business’

MoonKo has changed a lot over the years, especially through the pandemic, where as a shop i went in and out of lockdowns. Your support has meant that i have so far survived and still continue to be a presence on the high street. My love of all things botanical has meant that i have been able to use my shop space to dry flowers, from which i make up bouquets.

products that are FUNCTIONAL and beautiful

All our products are made to the highest standards, by ourselves (mainly me) and other independent makers, using Eco & environmental conscious materials, being as kind to the planet as possible.

Style & Quality

All our products are handmade to the highest quality & style, many of the products that we stock are made in the UK by experienced and emerging designers.  Some of our makers are just starting out with their business or are still at university.  We provide as much encouragement and support as possible.  We have passion for the creative sector, whether that be making scissors since 1902 or craving wooden knifes from reclaimed wood in Scotland.  We know all our makers and suppliers by name and love to hear their stories of growth and success.

100% Handmade

Our products are handmade, whether that be myself making unique ceramic pots to others creating bespoke hand cut ceramic jewellery or screen printed prints and t shirts.  Handmade products are timeless and made to last

Giving

We are passionate about giving back, and one of our visions is support and sponsor children out of poverty and those affected by sex trafficking and HIV.

We also work with some amazing charities such as ONCA Gallery based in Brighton and Ghost of Gone Birds, Baby Basics, Snow drop, Hope for Justice, Archer Project, Food Banks
